Instructions

  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter with granulated sugar using an electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  3. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide dough in half; color one half with red gel food coloring.
  5. Chill both dough halves wrapped in plastic for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out each half into rectangles and layer them together before rolling into a log.
  7. Chill the log again for about 2 hours.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), slice the log into rounds, coat in sugar or crushed candies, and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
