- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 large onion
- 6 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 1 tsp rosemary
- 2 tsp marjoram
- 2 tsp cumin
- 3 tsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
- Oil for cooking
- Pitas
- Lettuce, sliced
- Tzatziki
- Tomatoes, sliced
- Red onions, sliced
- Feta cheese, crumbled
- French Fries, optional
Instructions
- Puree onion and garlic until smooth using a food processor.
- Mix ground beef and lamb with pureed onion, garlic, and spices in a stand mixer or by hand until it forms a paste.
- For enhanced flavor, refrigerate the meat mixture for 2 hours to 24 hours.
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking tray with foil.
- Shape the meat into a log and wrap it in foil with a skewer inserted for support.
- Bake for about 1.5 hours until cooked through (internal temperature reaches 160°F).
- Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly.
- Sear slices in a skillet until crispy.
- Assemble gyros with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, veggies, and optional fries.
