Ingredients
- 4 fresh unwaxed oranges
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Spices (cinnamon stick, star anise, or cloves for optional flavor)
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash the oranges and peel them using a sharp knife to remove only the bright orange skin.
- Cut the peels into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
- Boil the peels in water for 10 minutes, drain, and repeat this process 2-3 times to minimize bitterness.
- In a pot, combine sugar and water to create syrup; add optional pinch of salt and vanilla extract.
- Add the boiled peels to the syrup and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes until translucent.
- Transfer the peels to a cooling rack lined with parchment paper and allow them to dry completely.
